Artist Trading Coins with Pockets

Hi everyone, Heather here to share some fun Artist Trading Cards with pockets to hold Artist Trading Coins.  I’m so happy to be back on the blog sharing another project.

I started out by cutting my ATC base, a mat layer with the Torn set. I cut out the circle using the Artist Trading Coin set.  I used papers from various ECD collections.

I placed my mat layer on my score board and scored on both sides just past the edge of the base card. To do this accurately I needed to shift the mat layer rather than lining it up with the edge of the scoreboard. You could also just fold it around the card instead of scoring it first.

I ink distressed all of the pieces and then added some double-sided tape to the two flaps and bottom edge of the mat layer piece.

My next step was to attach the mat layer onto the card base.  I attached only one side first and then the other two.  You can watch this short video of how I did that.

Now that my card base was assembled, I cut out some gears using the Get into Gear dies. I used the large gear on the coin since it fits perfectly and a few smaller ones on the pocket.

The theme for the ATC Prompts for May is Flowers so I wanted to incorporate that into these cards.  I used the flowers from the ATC Special kit stamp and die set. I also used the Stitched Borders stamp to add faux stitching all around the card. I was sure to use a different stamp for each line so that it would appear more realistic.

I thought it would be fun to try to heat emboss on the pocket, so I pulled out my pancake maker to give it a try.  I stamped the “Flower Power” sentiment from the Stitched Borders stamp with VersaMark and then added some Charred Gold embossing powder by Emerald Creek.  This embossing powder is lovely but has very large chunks, so it really blurred the sentiment.  I actually like how it turned out though.  Like other thick powders, it works better in the pancake maker.

Once I was done heat embossing, I attached my flowers.  I also added another base card to the back of the card to cover up the flaps and make it easier to stamp the ATC label.  I added a back to the coin as well and then added an eyelet and a little clip.  I’ve had these clips in my stash almost since I began crafting and finally found a use for them!

I created a set of four ATC pockets with coins all using the same theme.  I changed up the embellishments slightly on each card/coin but all of them used pieces from either the Artist Trading Coin or the Torn set.  

Here you can see the labels on the backs of all the cards and coins.  If you zoom in you can see that each has a unique name all within the flower theme.

Although they have a little bulk to them, they still fit easily into the Art Journal Sleeves in my Chic Black Square TN.
